Much ado about soya? We get it.

Here at Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire our winter barley ration for beef cattle includes about 5% soya – and it’s not rainforest stuff, it’s responsibly sourced. But we are aiming to fix that, and in this video we share how and why we’re moving away from even that small amount, what else goes into the ration, and how we feed cows in winter when it’s too wet and cold to leave them out on pasture.

This isn’t about demonising ingredients – it’s about making the whole farm system closer to home, reducing imported feeds, improving rumen health, and keeping things regenerative, soil-focused and climate-aware, even when the weather keeps everyone inside.
