Our cattle might be on the small side, but there’s a very good reason for that — and it starts with the breed we’ve chosen. We’re moving into Stabilisers at Lower Blakemere Farm in Herefordshire because they’re bred for easy calving, forage efficiency, good temperament and top-quality beef rather than just big size. Stabilisers are a scientifically developed composite beef breed originally created from a mix of British and Continental breeds (including Angus, Simmental and Gelbvieh) to combine docility, fertility, early maturity and feed efficiency into one animal that behaves well and performs well in grass-based systems like ours.
